Usha Nadkarni Says No Male Has Had The Guts To Touch Her Even With One Finger In The Industry
Right from the time when she had made her debut with Dr Jabbar Patel’s film Simhasan, way back in 1979, the veteran actress Usha Nadkarni who shot to fame with Ekta Kapoor’s popular TV serial Pavitra Rishta has been around as an actress for the last 40 years in not only Hindi films but also Marathi films, besides being a part of the Marathi stage, does not mind calling a spade a spade. At the music launch at the Hotel Taj Land’s End, of the Marathi film Majha Agadbam, written, produced and directed by Trupti Bhoire and her music director husband Satish Chakravarti, with Jayantilal Gada, when I asked her about the Me Too movement in Marathi films, she shot back, “It is with great pride that I can say that till date, whether it has been in Hindi or Marathi films, not a single person in the industry can claim to have touched me with even one finger. I am 73 today. I’d say that unless and until you yourself send signals to the males and tell them that you are ready, no one will be ready to touch you if you are not willing. It is strange that most of the actresses enter the films without any qualms to sleep to get roles and reach the top too soon without struggling hard for it. I am happy working in Marathi films. It is not that I detest working in Hindi films. It is just the attitude of people when they approach me with an offer that puts me off. If they feel I am desperate to get work in Hindi films, I just shoo them and insist on being paid my price for acting.” Majha Agadbam starring Subodh Bhave, Trupti Bhoire, Usha Nadkarni and Tanaji Galgunde (of Sairat fame) is slated for release on October 26, 2018
