'RAAZI' BANNED FROM RELEASING IN PAKISTAN

Alia Bhatt is currently busy promoting her upcoming movie Raazi. But according to latest reports, the censor board of Pakistan has banned the film because of the controversial content and negative portrayal of Pakistan. Even the patriotic local distributors have denied to purchase the film referring to its controversial plot on the India-Pakistan 1971 war. Earlier Padman and Pari was also banned in Pakistan.

According to a leading daily, a senior representative of a distribution company said, “It is disappointing to see that films on controversial subjects are being produced in India time and again. All our distributors are well aware of Alia’s role in Raazi and so, no one is willing to purchase the film. Patriotism is another reason for distributors not being pushed about buying the film. Indian producers should know that all our distributors have unanimously decided to boycott such controversial films.”

Talking about the ban in Pakistan, director Meghna Gulzar said that she has attempted to remain honest to both the countries.

"Purely based on our trailer, it was suggested Raazi may not release in Pakistan. However, no one has seen the film. We're hoping that once the film releases, misconceptions about whether or not it is anti-Pakistan will get cleared out."

"There has been no application initiated by us to release it there yet"

"The situation in Kashmir was different in 1971 than what it is now. The stand that Raazi takes on the India-Pakistan dynamic will be understood by people when they watch the film," she added.

The Dharma Productions will be releasing the film in India on May 11.
