Too Bland and Syrupy!

Jyothi Venkatesh

The rather too bland tale is about tour bosom friends, who are separated by an untoward incident during their college life, and after four years the three reunite to help Manjari who is going through the toughest time in her life. And it brings them back to the medical college campus that they had left on a bitter note. The film marks the debut of Namit (Prit Kamani), Abeer (Anshuman Malhotra), Sarjo (Tushar Pandey) and Simran Sharma (Manjari), who play the four friends in a medical college.

Simran Sharma is a revelation as she has screen presence and acts her scenes well, though the screenplay is full of loopholes and needed crisper editing to tone it down at least by 20 minutes as it starts plodding and stretching inordinately after the interval. Himanshu Malhotra cast in the good old Rajshri mould of Sonu Sood and Mohnish Behl, plays a sugary and sweet husband in a brief role but has been wasted in a rather inane role.

Though set in the modern age, the structure and tone of storytelling remain the same old — a classic linear narrative, with a predictable turn of events, over-established situations and stilted character arcs that make you yawn. All the three boys and the girl do drink but only wine, they do not smoke and no they do not carry a condom too, because they are all sanskaris, but the girl decides to spend the whole night in the male hostel, after she hosts her birthday party . The tale makes a case for platonic friendships and attempts at elevating it to the same level as romantic relationships, with all the three boys angling for the love of the girl.

Abhishek Dixit shows promise as a director but is handicapped by a trite screenplay and the film, on the whole, fails to strike a chord in the hearts of the audience. To sum up, the film will find the sailing at the box office tough because it has no face value at all and is too bland and syrupy to digest!
