Mahesh Thakur, who has been active in acting for the last 32 years, has created a distinct identity for himself in Bollywood by playing many diverse characters. He is equally active in both TV and films. He never thought of leaving films or TV. These days he is in the news for the Marathi film "Janma Rin" directed by Kanchan Adhikari, which will be released on March 15.

Here are excerpts from the conversation with Mahesh Thakur.

How do you look back at your thirty-two years of career today?

- To tell the truth, God made me an actor. I did not make any effort on my part to become an actor. But time kept moving at its own pace and I have been acting. And I have reached this point.

Mahesh Thakur

What were the turning points in your career?

- The first turning point was getting Sooraj Barjatya's film "Hum Saath Saath Hain". This was the biggest turning point in my career. My friends were making ad films, so it was they who inspired me to act. There were two important turning points. The rest of my career continued smoothly.

There were many ups and downs in your career. Amidst these ups and downs, you also did a TV serial 'Hamari Bahu Miss Malini Iyer' with Sridevi.

-Yes yes! This serial was a very big serial of my career. It was directed by Satish Kaushik, while the producer was Boney Kapoor. It used to air on Sahara One. Sadly, today both Sridevi and Satish Kaushik are no longer among us. I enjoyed acting in this serial a lot. It was a matter of pride for me to act with Sridevi. She was a fantastic artist and a very good-natured person. Her character in this serial was a South Indian woman. While ours was a Punjabi family. So when she comes to us as a daughter-in-law, what kind of comical incidents happen, all that is in this serial? This serial can be seen even today on YouTube.

You played both comic and serious characters. You played more comic characters. But where do you find yourself more comfortable?

- In my opinion, as an actor, we should play all types of characters. Be it comic, serious, or negative characters. For me, every character is a challenge. I do not think that I have to do easy work. The more difficult a character is, the more fun it is to portray it with your acting. The more satisfaction you get. So, I like to do difficult work. Doing the serial 'Hamari Bahu Miss Malini Iyer' with Sridevi was also not easy. Similarly, I have done a web series "Journey of a Common Man" on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is streaming on Eros Now. In this, I have played the character of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was not easy to play this character. There was neither seriousness nor humor. It involved giving long speeches. Acting in it was a very different kind of experience. But I always take up challenging roles.

While playing a live character, there is always a fear that people will compare me with my character or the person I am playing might get angry. What kind of challenge did you face?

- The biggest challenge before me was that the audience should accept the way I play the character. Modi ji is such a big personality that it was not easy to play his character in front of him. If any actor had been in my place, he would have been scared. The biggest challenge for me was to do justice to the character. Apart from this, I didn't think of anything else. I acted as best I could through the dialogue given in front of the camera.

Janma Rin

Now your Marathi film “Janma Rin” is coming. What made you think of getting associated with this film?

- See, this is the first Marathi film of my career. I had done a serial with its director Kanchan Adhikari. So I was well acquainted with him. I was born in Mumbai. I have been acting for 32 years. But the first This is the first time I have had the opportunity to do a Marathi film. The producer and director of the film, Kanchan Adhikari, has chosen a very good subject. One day she narrated this story to me, I liked the story very much. After listening to the story, I realized that I didn't even know that something like this was happening in Maharashtra. I told her that I would like to be a part of this film. Kanchan Ji said that the actors for all the characters have been selected. I said that even if it was a small role, I would like to do it. After some time she called me and said that there is a character of an airport manager. I immediately agreed. The character is very good. It has also been filmed very well. This character comes at such a juncture when the story takes a new turn. So this character will always remain with the audience. As far as the story is concerned, this is a story that every parent should watch. What doesn't every parent do out of love for their children? They leave no stone unturned in their upbringing. This film has been made keeping in mind what the children can do in return. No parent should live in the misconception or superstition that nothing can ever go wrong. It is possible. This film talks about the pain that parents feel when something goes wrong. Every director thinks ten times before working on such a subject. But on such a subject and story, our director Kanchan Adhikari I liked the confidence that was there. She has chosen a very challenging subject. I am eagerly waiting for the release of this film.

This story underlines the fact that every human being has some debt and responsibility towards their birth father and parents, which they should fulfill under all circumstances. It talks about the birth Rin of every human being.

Kanchan Adhikari

How much did you relate to this story?

-Too much... We live in this superstition that our children cannot go against us. But the children do not just connect with their parents when they go out of the house, they also connect with the people of the world. In such a situation, the minds of the children can get damaged. So it depends on the parents how they raise their children. But the parents think that if they have given birth, then they have given birth. It will be ours only. The effort that is put in to provide upbringing is very important and meaningful. Otherwise when the child grows up, when they come out of the house and meet people, people will corrupt their mind. There are many such things in the film which will force you to think.

What would you like to say about your character in the film ‘Janma Rin’?

- I have played the role of an airport manager in this film. He is a good person. He always keeps an eye on his surroundings. He sees whatever happens inside the airport.

This is your first Marathi film. Did you feel the need to learn Marathi?

Kanchan Adhikari Janma Rin

- I was born and brought up in Mumbai. I can read and understand Marathi. But I can't speak. I have very few dialogues in this film, so it worked. But I have told Kanchan Adhikari that if she informs me in advance about the next film, I will take Marathi classes.

What do you see as an airport manager in this film, is that something you have seen in your personal life?

-We see something or the other around us every day. Sometimes we move forward to help and sometimes we remain mere silent spectators. Here in this film, the airport manager keeps seeing a lot. Then he does something. He sees and how he saves them. It is better if you watch it in the film.

'Aangan Sapno Ka...' on Sony SAB

What else are you doing?

- I am doing a serial 'Aangan Sapno Ka...' on Sony SAB. In this, I have become the father of three daughters. At the center of the story is a father and three daughters. Two daughters are married. One daughter is not married. She argues that if I get married and go away, then what will happen to my father who is alone? But father Jai Dev Sharma gets her married... then the story moves ahead.

How busy are you on social media?

- I stay away from social media. I like to maintain the privacy of my life.
